Dr Marshall will outline a mission-driven vision for research in support of Australia’s food and agriculture sector, with the goal of reducing the impacts of droughts by 30 per cent, increasing the value of Australian agrifood exports by $10 billion, and producing $10 billion of new alternative protein products by 2030. CSIRO has a century-long heritage in agriculture, working with farmers, governments and industry to improve both life on the land and boost economic returns for Australia. Dr Marshall will detail the opportunity for Australia to gain a competitive advantage with an agricultural sector built on cutting edge science and innovation, as well as build resilience to disruption.
About Dr Larry Marshall
Dr Larry Marshall is Chief Executive of CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency and innovation catalyst.
Under his leadership, CSIRO has delivered its highest ever industry revenue, the largest increase in diversity, a ten-fold increase in CSIRO’s equity portfolio, and extensive collaboration with universities, government, and industry.
Larry is a scientist, technology innovator and business leader. He has a PhD in Physics and is a global leader in laser research. He has founded six companies, has 100 publications and conference papers, and holds 20 patents.
Larry is a Male Champion of Change committed to tackling gender equity, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a passionate supporter of Australian innovation.
